Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said that it is difficult for the former government members who used the people for their personal agendas to understand the populist political culture. The Prime Minister made this statement while speaking on the first day (21) of the two-day debate in Parliament on the Clean Sri Lanka program.

Speaking further, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said

that from the day the Parliament met, I have been wondering what the role of this opposition is and what purpose this opposition is speaking for? To understand what their plan is. They do not take the issues raised by the opposition seriously. They shout for no reason, they have become an opposition that cannot understand the dignity of Parliament or what the parliamentary debate is for. One of

our main objectives in the Clean Sri Lanka program is to involve the people of this country in the transformation needed for this country. Bringing about a transformative change is not something that a government or government officials can do alone. It requires the participation of the people. The consensus of the people is needed, a dialogue is needed among the people to decide what transformation should be made and how that transformation should be. Our government is a people-oriented government, there is a culture in which a people-oriented government works. The people also participate in it. I am not surprised that those who were in anti-people governments, those who were in governments that used the people for their personal agendas, cannot understand it. The Clean Sri Lanka program is not a program that is enforced by passing laws.

The country's capitalists and businessmen want to dedicate themselves for this country. That is something that should be appreciated. The previous governments did not involve businessmen or capitalists for the society, but to fill their own pockets. Such people cannot understand the people-oriented political culture.

Some in the opposition criticize this project and say that they stand for good things, but they are not capable of holding a single line.

We have ended the era when teachers knelt down, selected teachers were forced to send them to the schools of their choice, and when their only duty was to give letters to children to be admitted to schools. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said in the Clean Sri Lanka debate that such things will not happen again.
