Sri Lankan and Maldivian Coast Guards Strengthen Oil Spill Response Capabilities
The comprehensive training program, organized by Ambipar in collaboration with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and funded by the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP), SLCG media says.
The training focused on enhancing oil spill response strategies, establishing effective incident command systems, and implementing joint practical solutions during field exercises.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities at Maldivian harbours and a remote island, including deploying fence booms, operating weir skimmers, and utilizing Maldives Coast Guard assets to tackle simulated oil spill scenarios.
This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between the SLCG and the Maldives Coast Guard. It highlights the importance of capacity building and international cooperation in addressing shared challenges and safeguarding the marine environment, it further says.
