Veteran journalist Victor Ivan's final rites scheduled for today

Veteran journalist and author Victor Ivan, known for his significant contributions to Sri Lankan journalism, has passed away. His remains are currently being kept at the Ruhunu Funeral Parlour in Karapitiya, with final rites scheduled today January 20, at 5:00 p.m. at the Dadella Cemetery.

Ivan began his journalistic career in 1986 and was the founding editor of the influential Sinhala newspaper Ravaya, a role he held for 25 years. His work and commitment to investigative journalism earned him respect across the media landscape.

In addition to his journalistic accomplishments, Ivan was an accomplished author. His notable works include Chaurya Rajina, a critical examination of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's rule, which was later translated into English as The Queen of Deceit

Another key publication, Pansale Viplawaya, explored the Buddhist revival movement, and was translated into English under the title Revolt in the Temple – The Buddhist Revival up to Gangodawila Soma Thera.

Ivan’s work left an indelible mark on Sri Lankan journalism, and his insights on political and social matters will continue to resonate in the nation’s history. He will be remembered not only for his journalistic integrity but also for his dedication to the written word.
