Revised Alcohol and Beer Prices with recent Tax Rates Hike

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, has revised excise duties on alcohol and beer, effective today ( January 11), under the authority granted to him by Section 22 of the Excise Ordinance (Chapter 52).

As a result, the previously issued Excise Notification No. 04/2023, published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2364/35 on December 31, 2023, has been revoked.

The updated taxes significantly increase the cost of various alcoholic beverages produced in Sri Lanka

New Tax Rates:

    •    Special arrack: Rs. 7,244 per liter.

    •    Molasses, palm, coconut, and seasoned arrack: Rs. 7,752 per liter.

    •    Locally produced foreign liquor: Rs. 7,969 per liter.

Updated Alcohol Prices:

    •    Rock arrack: Increased by Rs. 102, now Rs. 3,682 per bottle.

    •    Coconut arrack: Increased by Rs. 109, now Rs. 3,959 per bottle.

    •    Old arrack: Increased by Rs. 109, now Rs. 4,109 per bottle.

    •    Special old arrack: Increased by Rs. 109, now Rs. 4,359 per bottle.

Beer Price Increases:

    •    Low-alcohol beer: Increased by Rs. 30 per bottle.

    •    High-alcohol (Strong) beer: Increased by Rs. 40 per bottle.

Additionally, the price of locally produced foreign whiskey has risen by Rs. 100 per bottle. Prices for other foreign liquors will vary depending on their alcohol content.

These changes, impacting nine categories of alcohol, are expected to affect the cost of popular beverages across Sri Lanka.
