Appropriation Bill for 2025 Presented in Parliament
The bill outlines the allocation of funds for government expenditure and marks a significant step in the country’s financial planning for the year ahead.
The second reading of the Appropriation Bill, also known as the Budget Speech, has been scheduled for February 17. Following the speech, a seven-day debate on the second reading will take place from February 18 to February 25. Members of Parliament will cast their vote on the second reading of the bill on February 25 at 6:00 PM.
The Committee Stage Debate, which involves a detailed review of the bill, is set to begin on February 27 and will continue for 19 days, including four Saturdays. This phase of the budget process will conclude with the vote on the third reading of the bill on March 21 at 6:00 PM.
During the budget debate period, specific time allocations have been made to ensure a comprehensive discussion of various matters. From 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM each day, five questions requiring oral answers will be addressed. The primary budget debate will then proceed from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Additionally, time from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM has been allocated for adjournment motions on all days except February 25 and March 21, when votes are scheduled.
The total estimated government expenditure for the financial year 2025, period from January 1 to December 31, 2025, has been set at Rs. 4,616 billion,
