A key meeting held today between private bus associations and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya, successfully resolved tensions surrounding traffic operations. The meeting took place this morning at the Police Headquarters, following a call by bus unions for a nationwide strike, citing excessive pressure being imposed by the police on buses.
The bus unions had expressed concerns that recent actions by law enforcement were creating undue difficulties for bus operators. However, after fruitful discussions with Acting IGP Weerasuriya, an agreement was reached, and the unions have decided to call off their planned strike.
This positive outcome will help maintain normal bus services across the island, alleviating potential disruptions to commuters. Both parties have agreed to continue dialogue to ensure a balanced approach to traffic management and the smooth operation of public transportation.
