Kusal Perera hit a stunning 101, his career-best score, as Sri Lanka posted an impressive 218-5 in the third T20 match against New Zealand in Nelson on today ( January 2).

Although New Zealand had already secured the three-match series with wins in the first two games, Perera showcased Sri Lanka’s fighting spirit with a 46-ball knock featuring four sixes and 13 fours. His century is now the fastest by a Sri Lankan in T20 internationals.

Perera received some luck, being dropped on 15 and 60, but was eventually dismissed for 101 in the penultimate over, caught by Rachin Ravindra off Daryl Mitchell.

He built key partnerships, including 41 runs with Avishka Fernando and a 100-run stand with Charith Asalanka, who contributed a quick 46 off 24 balls, hitting five sixes and one four.

Kusal Perera now holds a record for the fastest T20 century by a Sri Lankan off just 44 balls and he also broke Kusal Mendis' record for most 50-plus scores in T20Is by a Sri Lankan.
