The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that all outstanding taxes for the assessment year 2023/2024 must be paid by January 26, 2025.

Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekara emphasized that taxpayers who fail to meet this deadline will not qualify for penalty relief.

To recover unpaid self-assessment tax and outstanding tax payments, the IRD has launched field surveys and legal measures under the Inland Revenue Ordinance.

Starting from January 2025, the department will take strict action against defaulters, including freezing bank accounts without prior notice.

Furthermore, criminal proceedings may be initiated against individuals and businesses with outstanding tax payments. The department urged taxpayers to clear their dues promptly to avoid legal complications and penalties.
