Flood warnings have been announced for multiple regions in Sri Lanka due to rising water levels in major rivers, including the Kelani, Nilwala, and Mahaweli Rivers, as well as the Yan, Malwathu, Dedeuru, and Maha Oyas, following heavy rainfall across the country.

In the Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, and Mannar districts, significant rainfall last night has raised flood risks in low-lying areas near the Malwathu Oya, affecting Mahawilachchiya, Vengalacheddikulam, Nanaddan, Musalai, and Madhu District Secretariat Divisions.

The Irrigation Department cautions that water discharge rates from reservoirs such as Deduru Oya, Rajanganaya, Kawdulla, Yan, and Parakrama may increase today due to ongoing rains.

Additionally, the department predicts potential flooding in low-lying areas around Kala Oya, impacting Nochchiyagama, Rajanganaya, Vanathavilluwa, and Karuwalagaswewa District Secretariat Divisions, within the next 48 hours.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay alert to possible floods during the current adverse weather conditions.
