President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that improving rural development and the social and economic well-being of rural communities is a key focus of the government during its current term. He shared these remarks during a meeting today (5 November) at the Presidential Secretariat with members of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association (SLAS).

The President underscored the importance of collaboration between public officials and the government for effectively implementing its initiatives, noting that the insights and expertise of government officials are crucial to realizing policy goals. He pointed out a disconnect between the government’s objectives and the traditional methods of the public sector, suggesting that public administration must evolve to better support national development projects.

Tackling fraud and corruption was identified as a top government priority, with the President stating that poor attention to project implementation has significantly harmed the economy. He assured that the political leadership would not interfere in the operations of the public service, allowing officials to function independently.

Additionally, President Dissanayake highlighted that government officials have a special role in advancing regional development and emphasized the need to reduce unnecessary spending in the public sector without cutting essential services.
