U.S. Business willing to expand Investment in Sri Lanka says Julie Chung
AmSafe Bridport, a subsidiary of Transdigm Company, will establish its “Shield” manufacturing operations in Sri Lanka’s Wathupitiwala Export Processing Zone, a move that underscores the U.S.’s strengthening economic ties with Sri Lanka. Ambassador Chung stated that this decision reflects growing U.S. business interest in Sri Lanka as a reliable manufacturing hub, particularly as companies seek alternatives in their supply chains due to shifting global demands.
"Shield's decision to expand here is a testament to U.S. investor confidence in Sri Lanka," Ambassador Chung stated, underscoring the strong trade relationship between the two nations. As Sri Lanka’s largest export market, the U.S. is a crucial partner, and Chung encouraged Sri Lanka to continue fostering a welcoming business environment through anti-corruption efforts and transparency.
"If you build it, they will come," she noted, expressing optimism that strengthened ties will attract further investment, leading to job creation, innovation, and prosperity.
In her remarks, Ambassador Chung also highlighted the broad partnership between the U.S. and Sri Lanka, which spans from enhancing agricultural productivity to supporting maritime security. These efforts aim to boost economic growth, improve living standards, and maintain regional stability.
Chung concluded by emphasizing the U.S. commitment to support Sri Lanka’s economic development and build inclusive communities, expressing hope that AmSafe’s expansion will positively impact local employment and set a precedent for further foreign investment in the country.
