Sri Lanka to launch digital reporting for migrant workers

Sri Lanka will soon introduce a digital program enabling migrant workers to report concerns via smartphones, as announced by Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara.

The program will allow domestic workers to notify authorities if they face issues such as unpaid salaries or other troubles. This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by the 301,000 domestic workers and 360,000 skilled workers abroad.

Despite the prevalence of abuse, the government currently receives only 0.001 percent of complaints due to underreporting and legal channel limitations. The government is also educating workers on how to escalate complaints through the Foreign Employment Bureau.
