Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has extended his Poson Poya greetings to Buddhists in Sri Lanka and around the world, describing the opportunity to convey a message on the sacred occasion as a great privilege.

In his Poson message, Premadasa said the Poson Full Moon Poya marks a defining moment in Sri Lanka's spiritual history, commemorating the arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thera, who introduced Buddhism to the island. He noted that Poson is not only a religious celebration but also a symbol of a spiritual revolution that transformed the minds of the people, society, and the State.

Recalling the historic dialogue between Arahant Mahinda Thera and King Devanampiyatissa, the Opposition Leader said it demonstrated that genuine national progress is built on wisdom, dialogue, and understanding rather than power or wealth. He added that the message remains just as relevant today as Sri Lanka continues to face numerous challenges.

Mr. Premadasa emphasized that the country needs unity instead of division, loving-kindness instead of hatred, and justice instead of injustice. He urged the public to embrace the core Buddhist values of compassion, kindness, equality, and respect for truth, making them guiding principles in both personal lives and the nation's future.

He also called on Sri Lankans of all religions, ethnicities, and cultures to remember that they are children of one nation and to work together to build a just and prosperous Sri Lanka founded on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and humanity.

Concluding his message, he expressed the hope that the light of the Poson full moon would inspire hearts with loving-kindness instead of hatred and justice instead of injustice, strengthening harmony and unity across the country.
