Maximum Retail Prices of Bottled Drinking Water Rises

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced an increase in the maximum retail prices of locally packaged drinking water through a revised gazette notification that came into effect today (10).

According to the new pricing structure, bottles ranging from 500ml to 999ml can now be sold at a maximum price of Rs. 80, compared to the previous ceiling of Rs. 70.

The maximum retail price of water bottles between 1 litre and 1.49 litres has been increased to Rs. 120 from Rs. 100, while bottles ranging from 1.5 litres to 1.99 litres will now be sold at a maximum of Rs. 150, up from Rs. 130.

In addition, the price ceiling for 2-litre to 2.49-litre bottles has been revised from Rs. 160 to Rs. 180.

The CAA has also increased the maximum retail price of bottled water containers between 5 litres and 6.99 litres from Rs. 350 to Rs. 400.

The revised prices are effective immediately and apply to all locally packaged and bottled drinking water products covered under the gazette notification.
