A complaint has been lodged with the National Child Protection Authority against controversial remarks allegedly made by Dilum Amunugama, the National Organizer of Sarvajana Balaya, during a recent media briefing.

The complaint relates to comments reportedly made about a minor girl who is the victim in an ongoing child abuse case currently being heard before court.

According to the complaint, during a media conference held on May 20, Dilum Amunugama commented on the arrest of the Atamasthanadhipathi Thero and allegedly referred to the child victim as a “prostitute,” causing serious insult and humiliation to the minor.

The complaint states that the remarks amount to verbal abuse against a child victim involved in an active court proceeding and constitute a grave violation of her dignity and rights.

It further alleges that the statement violates provisions of Sri Lanka’s Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, No. 10 of 2023.

As the relevant court case is being handled under the supervision of the National Child Protection Authority and the child is currently under its protection, the complaint calls for immediate legal action regarding the statement. It also urges authorities to ensure the victim’s safety and psychosocial wellbeing.
