Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, emphasized the importance of skilled and dedicated healthcare workers in achieving the country’s future health sector goals.

A total of 952 professionals in the Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) and paramedical fields were awarded diplomas and higher diplomas at a ceremony held yesterday (19) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

The event was conducted under the patronage of the Minister and included two sessions. During the first session, diplomas were awarded to 526 individuals, including 449 Public Health Midwives and 77 Public Health Field Officers. In the second session, 426 professionals received higher diplomas, comprising 39 School Dental Therapists, 149 Pharmacists, and 238 Public Health Inspectors.

Addressing the graduates, the Minister highlighted that strengthening primary healthcare remains a key priority for the government, especially during the current challenges faced by the health sector. He stressed that the role of trained and committed professionals is critical in achieving this objective.

He also urged the newly qualified professionals to uphold Sri Lanka’s strong global reputation in areas such as maternal and child healthcare. Describing them as “pioneers” of the national health system, the Minister noted that their qualifications carry a responsibility to serve the public with discipline, humility, and dedication.

The Minister further stated that the government is taking steps to modernize the health sector through digital technologies, improved training, and knowledge-sharing opportunities both locally and internationally.

In addition, he announced plans to fast-track the provision of motorcycles within this year for Public Health Midwives and Public Health Inspectors engaged in field duties.
