Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, stated that legal procedures are already underway to extradite these suspects to Sri Lanka at the earliest possible time. He noted that coordination with international agencies is ongoing to ensure the process is handled efficiently and in accordance with the law.
In addition to the eight individuals, authorities are also working to secure the return of 15 other suspects linked to various criminal activities. These individuals are believed to be residing overseas but have not yet been issued Interpol Red Notices, which can complicate the process of arrest and extradition.
Sri Lanka Police highlighted that since 2024, they have successfully repatriated 32 organized criminals who had fled the country to evade legal action and were subject to Interpol Red Notices. Officials say this reflects strengthened international cooperation and a renewed focus on tackling transnational crime.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing all fugitives, emphasizing that no individual involved in organized crime will be allowed to escape justice, regardless of where they attempt to hide.
