Speaking at a press conference today, he said the income was driven by increased passenger demand as people traveled to their hometowns to celebrate the New Year. April 11 was recorded as the highest revenue-earning day in the Board’s history, bringing in Rs. 213 million, he added.
Meanwhile, the National Transport Commission stated that special bus services will operate from today to facilitate the return of passengers to Colombo and other major cities following the holiday period. Its Director General Nilan Miranda noted that more than 400,000 passengers had traveled to their villages using private buses from Colombo.
Passengers have been advised to report any instances of excessive fares by contacting the Commission’s hotline at 1955.
In addition, Gemunu Wijeratne, Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, said that over 4,000 buses have been deployed to ensure sufficient transport facilities for holiday travelers.
