D.S. de Silva, a member of the first Sri Lankan team to play Test cricket and a former national captain, has passed away in London at the age of 83.

De Silva rendered an immense service to Sri Lankan cricket over several decades. He captained Sri Lanka in two Test matches and represented the country in 12 Test matches and 41 One Day Internationals during his playing career.

Following his retirement from international cricket, de Silva continued to contribute to the sport as a coach, team manager, and a member of the national selection committee. He later served as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket from 2009 to 2011.

His passing marks the loss of a pioneering figure in Sri Lanka’s cricket history, whose contributions extended both on and off the field.
