President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has reaffirmed that agriculture will be the central pillar of Sri Lanka's economy,highlighting its crucial role in shaping the country's future.
Speaking at the 58th National New Rice Festival in front of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura, the President declared that a new era has begun for those engaged in agriculture, promising better prospects for farmers across the nation.
"The period for those involved in agriculture to reap the benefits of their hard work has now started," President Dissanayake said, underscoring his commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector.
He further emphasized that agriculture is not only essential for the nation's economy but also a key to preserving the heritage of Sri Lanka’s national economy.
The President's remarks were made in the presence of the Maha Sangha, led by the Incumbent of the Eighth Chapter, Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, who also attended the event. A group of ministers, including Minister KD Lal Kantha and Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne, were also present to mark the occasion.
This year's New Rice Festival highlighted the importance of rice cultivation and the role of farmers in sustaining Sri Lanka's agricultural traditions.
