The Ministry of Health (MOH) has released a set of guidelines aimed at ensuring safety during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, with a special focus on preventing accidents and medical conditions.

These guidelines are especially directed at high-risk activities such as marathons, cycling events, and other physical games commonly held during the festivities.

In an effort to safeguard public health, the MOH has emphasized the importance of proper preparation, hydration, and medical support during these events. Medical teams will be stationed at key locations, particularly for high-intensity activities, to provide immediate assistance if needed.

The guidelines also include recommendations for participants to undergo pre-event medical checks, use appropriate protective gear, and follow safety protocols. Authorities are urging event organizers to ensure that the environment is safe and to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of injuries or heat-related illnesses.

With large crowds expected to take part in these celebrations, the Ministry also advises spectators and participants alike to be mindful of their physical limits, practice good hygiene, and stay hydrated.

The MOH’s proactive approach aims to ensure that the Sinhala and Tamil New Year games are enjoyable and, most importantly, safe for all.
