The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather warning for today, predicting showers or thundershowers at several locations in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya district, starting after 2:00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers, exceeding 50 mm, are expected in some areas of Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, while a few showers may also occur along the coastal areas of the Eastern province during the morning.

Additionally, misty conditions are anticipated in the morning in parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, including Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.

The general public is advised to take necessary precautions, particularly to protect themselves from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. It is important to remain cautious and prepared for potential disruptions.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island – 28th March 2025

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for the sea areas around the island, effective for the next 24 hours, as of 5:30 a.m. on 28th March 2025.

Condition of Rain: Showers or thundershowers are expected at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota, via Colombo, Galle, and Matara, particularly during the evening or night.

Winds: Winds are forecasted to be south-westerly or variable in direction, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

State of Sea: The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Mariners and fishermen are advised to exercise caution in the affected areas and stay alert to changing weather conditions.
