The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for today, forecasting showers or thundershowers at several locations across the country.

These weather conditions are expected to occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and Northwestern provinces after 2:00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall, reaching up to 100 mm in some areas, is likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces. The Eastern province and Polonnaruwa district may experience a few light showers.

Additionally, misty conditions are anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, along with Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts during the morning hours.

The general public is advised to take precautions to minimize the risks associated with temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers. Stay alert and stay safe.

Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloato Hambantota via Pottuvil.  Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Puttalam via Galle and Colomboduring the evening or night.
Winds:

Winds will be South-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

State of Sea:

Sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
