In an effort to guarantee that consumers receive quality products during the festive season, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated special islandwide raids starting today. The raids, which have been carried out over the past few days, aim to monitor and ensure that goods sold to the public are up to standard.

As part of the crackdown, the CAA has filed cases against several shop owners for various offenses, including failure to disclose prices, a key issue that has emerged during inspections. Wholesale outlets, warehouses, supermarkets, retail stores, stalls, and even mobile businesses will be thoroughly examined to ensure compliance with regulations.

In addition to these on-the-ground checks, the CAA has issued a reminder to the public to be cautious while making online purchases. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and to report any issues they face to the CAA's dedicated hotline, 1977.

Recently, during raids in Horana town, several shop owners were prosecuted for selling rice with husks, among other violations, as part of the ongoing effort to safeguard consumer interests during this busy season.

The CAA encourages the public to stay informed and report any malpractices to help maintain the integrity of the market.
