The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on four individuals associated with severe human rights violations during Sri Lanka's civil war. These sanctions target those believed to be responsible for unlawful killings, torture, and sexual violence during the conflict.

The list of sanctioned individuals includes former Sri Lankan Army Commanders General Shavendra Silva and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, as well as former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda. Also named is Vinayargamoorthy Mullidharan, better known as Karuna Amman, a former leader of the LTTE's eastern armed wing.

As a result of these sanctions, the individuals will be barred from entering the United Kingdom, and any assets they hold within the country will be frozen.

The sanctions are part of the UK's ongoing efforts to hold individuals accountable for atrocities committed during Sri Lanka's decades-long civil war, which ended in 2009.

These actions align with the UK government's broader stance on addressing human rights abuses and promoting accountability for crimes committed during the Sri Lankan conflict.
