The Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for several provinces today, forecasting thundershowers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Northern provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, after 2:00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall of over 50 mm is expected in some areas within Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts.

Additionally, intermittent spells of rain are expected in the Eastern and Uva provinces, along with Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts. Misty conditions are also anticipated in some parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, including Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts, particularly during the morning hours.

The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. Stay alert and stay safe.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island for the Next 24 Hours

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for sea areas around the island for the next 24 hours, advising mariners and coastal communities to be aware of changing conditions.

Rain Conditions:
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast, extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may affect several other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Wind Conditions:
Winds will be easterly, with speeds ranging between 20-30 km/h. Mariners should be prepared for possible variations in wind strength.

State of the Sea:
The sea will be generally slight to moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, posing a risk to those at sea.
