The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory, forecasting showers and thundershowers to occur at several locations across Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, and Mannar districts, starting after 2:00 p.m. today.

The rainfall is expected to be fairly heavy, with some areas receiving up to 75 mm of rain, particularly in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in Galle and Matara districts.

In addition, several spells of showers are likely to occur in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts.

The morning will bring misty conditions in some parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, including Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during the thundershowers. Stay safe and stay informed!

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island for the Next 24 Hours 

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for the sea areas surrounding the island for the next 24 hours.

Condition of Rain: Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several locations in the sea areas off the coast from Batticaloa to Hambantota via Pottuvil. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may develop in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Kankasanthurai, extending through Galle, Colombo, Puttalam, and Mannar, particularly during the evening or night.

Winds: The winds will be easterly in direction, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

State of Sea: The sea conditions around the island will remain slight to moderate. However, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are likely during thundershowers.

Mariners and those planning activities at sea are advised to exercise caution due to these changing weather conditions.
