The Polonnaruwa No. 2 Magistrate's Court has issued an arrest order for the former Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Welikanda Police, following allegations of contempt of court. The order was issued after the former OIC allegedly violated a court directive related to a cattle smuggling case.

Several months ago, the Welikanda Police arrested two suspects in connection with the smuggling of 20 cows. The court subsequently ordered that the cows be handed over to a government farm for safekeeping. However, reports indicate that the former OIC acted contrary to this ruling and sold the cattle back to the smugglers.

The court, having reviewed the matter, has now instructed the police to arrest the former OIC and present him before the court. This order emphasizes the court's commitment to upholding its directives and holding those in positions of authority accountable for their actions.

The arrest of the former OIC is expected to draw significant attention, as it raises concerns about the integrity and accountability of law enforcement officials. The investigation into the alleged misconduct is ongoing.
