The Academy of Health Professionals has launched a token strike today in protest against the government's decision to cut allowances for paramedical staff.
The strike, which began at 7:00 a.m., is taking place across hospitals islandwide, supported by multiple unions, including the Joint Federation of Paramedic Professionals and the Joint Front of Paramedic Services.
The action follows unsuccessful talks with Ministry of Finance officials on March 17. Upul Rohana, Co-Convenor of the Academy, stated that the strike was a necessary response after the government failed to address concerns over the cuts.
