The planned postal strike by the Postal and Telecommunications Officers' Association (PTOA) has been suspended after a productive discussion between union representatives and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The PTOA, along with the Joint Postal Trade Union Front, had initially announced their intention to strike based on seven key demands. However, following the talks, the association decided to halt the strike.
Despite the suspension of the planned postal strike, staff at the Borella Post Office have continued to carry out their duties as usual, unaffected by the trade union action.
In a related development, the Government Nursing Officers' Association has announced a 3-hour strike and protest today, as part of their ongoing efforts to address issues within the healthcare sector.
Meanwhile, H.M.S.B. Mediwatte, General Secretary of the All Ceylon Nurses' Association, criticized certain trade union leaders for pursuing narrow, self-serving goals. He pointed out that despite recent increases in the basic salary of government employees, some leaders who have benefited from past governments continue to lead protests that he believes are focused on personal gain rather than the broader welfare of workers.
