In a recent address at the World Kidney Day celebrations, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the Minister of Health and Media, reaffirmed the current government's unwavering commitment to making decisions that prioritize public health and patient welfare.
The event, organized by the Sri Lanka Kidney Patients' Association, marked the observance of World Kidney Day.
Dr. Jayatissa emphasized that the government would take firm action against any individuals or groups who endanger the country's health services or exploit patients for personal gain. He underscored that safeguarding the health and safety of the people is the primary goal of the current administration.
Addressing concerns from healthcare professionals, the Minister clarified that there are no unresolved issues between the government and medical personnel. He assured that the government remains open to discussions and is always ready to resolve any concerns raised by healthcare professionals, offering solutions in the best interests of the public. He stressed that, unlike previous administrations, the current government is committed to maintaining an open line of communication with healthcare providers to ensure the well-being of citizens.
Dr. Jayatissa acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Sri Lanka’s 1.5 million healthcare professionals, recognizing the substantial workload they carry in providing high-quality care to patients, particularly those with severe health conditions. He reiterated the shared responsibility of healthcare professionals in ensuring the best outcomes for patients.
The Minister also highlighted the collective goal of government, non-governmental organizations, and voluntary organizations to ensure that every citizen has access to a healthy and prosperous life. He reminded the public that the government’s expenditures are derived from the taxes paid by citizens and emphasized that their contributions should be maximized to deliver the highest possible value for the country.
Dr. Jayatissa further stated that the government’s approach is guided by a national plan focused solely on serving the people, rather than enhancing the image of politicians. This, he emphasized, reflects the government's commitment to transparent and effective governance in the healthcare sector.
The Minister's remarks came as part of the ongoing efforts to address critical health issues in the country, with a particular focus on improving kidney health and promoting public awareness of kidney-related diseases.
