The prestigious Sanjanani Harasara Award, organized by the Department of Mass Communication Studies at the University of Kelaniya, was presented this year to Mr. Shan Wickramasinghe, a trailblazer in the introduction of television to Sri Lanka. The award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the media sector.

Mr. Wickramasinghe, the founder of Sri Lanka's first television channel, Independent Television, was honored for his pioneering efforts in the country's television industry. A graduate in television and audio engineering, he has been a key figure in shaping Sri Lanka's media landscape.

The award ceremony was graced by notable figures, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, and Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe. The event highlighted Mr. Wickramasinghe's immense contribution to the growth and development of the media sector in Sri Lanka.
