A 34-year-old Thai national was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning for attempting to smuggle 5.2 kilograms of Kush cannabis into the country. The drugs, valued at approximately Rs. 52 million, were concealed inside food packets in the suspect's luggage.

The individual, who had arrived on Thai Airways flight TG-307 from Bangkok at 1:00 a.m., was detained by officers from the Customs Narcotics Control Unit during a routine inspection. Upon examination, the officers discovered the illicit substance hidden within the food packaging.

The suspect was immediately handed over to the BIA Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigation and legal action. Authorities are continuing their efforts to track any potential networks involved in the smuggling operation.

The arrest underscores ongoing vigilance at Sri Lanka's international airports in combating drug trafficking. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
