The Meteorology Department has issued a weather advisory for the next 24 hours, forecasting showers or thundershowers at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and Uva provinces, as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota districts.
Showers and Thundershowers Expected Across Several Provinces
The weather will be particularly unsettled, with fairly heavy showers expected at some places in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Galle, Matara, Kaluthara, and Rathnapura districts. These showers could exceed 75mm in certain locations.
In addition to rainfall, fairly strong winds, ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, are predicted over the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and North-western provinces, along with Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota districts.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during the thundershowers. Stay alert and stay safe.
Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island for the Next 24 Hours

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota, via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa. These conditions may extend to other sea areas around the island, with showers or thundershowers occurring in the afternoon or night.
Winds:
Northeasterly winds will prevail at a speed of 30-40 km/h. However, wind speeds may increase up to 50-55 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speeds in other sea areas around the island may increase to 45-50 km/h at times.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island may experience fairly rough conditions at times.
