A serious accident occurred this morning in the Wewetenna area along the Kandaketiya-Bopitiya road when a private bus collided head-on with a van. The bus, traveling from Kandaketiya towards Badulla, crashed into the van, which was carrying employees of a local garment company coming from the opposite direction.
The collision resulted in injuries to 12 individuals, including 8 young women who were in the van at the time of the incident. The victims were immediately rushed to the Kandaketiya Regional Hospital for treatment. Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
No fatalities have been reported so far, but the condition of the injured is still being assessed. The police are urging caution in the area as the situation unfolds.
