An air passenger was arrested at Katunayake International Airport for attempting to smuggle a shipment of mobile phones and tablet computers worth three million rupees into the country. The individual had arrived on a Qatar Airways flight and initially sent his luggage on a different flight.

Upon his arrival, the passenger went to retrieve his baggage, but airport customs officers conducted an inspection. During the search, they uncovered 180 mobile phones and 5 tablet computers concealed within the luggage.

The authorities immediately took action, arresting the passenger and initiating an investigation. The total value of the illegal goods seized is estimated to be around three million rupees.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of Sri Lankan customs to combat smuggling and ensure that illegal goods do not enter the country.
