A devastating fire has ravaged more than five acres of land at the Weerattagala Yaya Mountain Reserve, located in the Wellawaya Divisional Secretariat area. The blaze, which broke out yesterday afternoon, caused extensive damage to the reserve before it was successfully brought under control by this morning.

Local residents have raised concerns that the fire may have been intentionally set, suggesting possible foul play in the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, though no official confirmation has been made regarding the suspicions of arson.

The fire has left the area with significant destruction, affecting the rich natural environment of the reserve. Despite the damage, efforts to contain the flames were swift, and the fire was extinguished before it could spread further.

As investigations continue, environmental experts and local authorities are calling for increased vigilance to protect the remaining natural resources in the area and prevent future incidents.
