In rehearsal for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations police has announced a special traffic plan to manage vehicle flow in the vicinity of Independence Square.
The plan will be enforced during the rehearsal periods, scheduled to take place on the following dates and times:
29th January 2025: 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs
30th January 2025: 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs
31st January 2025: 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs
1st February 2025: 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs
2nd February 2025: 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs
During these times, several key roads in Cinnamon Gardens will be closed to facilitate the smooth execution of the rehearsal activities. The affected roads include:
• Wijerama Mawatha to Vidya Mawatha
• Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Maitland Place
• Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Prema Keerthi De Alwis Mawatha
• Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha to Foundation Road
• Independence Roundabout to Independence Square
• Horton Place to Maitland Crescent Junction towards Independence Roundabout
• R.G. Senanayake Mawatha to Maitland Crescent towards Independence Roundabout
• Entrance to Maitland Crescent from the Independence Roundabout
The Colombo Traffic Division assures the public that measures will be in place to minimize disruption for vehicles accessing nearby government and private institutions. Designated routes will be provided to ensure vehicles can bypass the affected areas without conflict with the rehearsal duties.
Motorists are advised to plan their travel routes accordingly and follow all traffic instructions to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic during the rehearsal periods.
