The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for varying weather conditions across Sri Lanka, with showers and thundershowers expected to affect several regions in the coming days.

Showers are forecast to occur at times in Uva Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Hambantota, and Matara districts. Several spells of showers may also affect the Northern and North-Central provinces, along with the Trincomalee district.

In addition, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in many places during the evening or night elsewhere across the island.

The Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces are expected to experience fairly heavy showers, with rainfall amounts potentially reaching up to 50 mm in some areas.

The weather department has also warned of fairly strong winds (30-40 km/h) that may affect the Eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces, along with Matale, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.

Misty conditions are anticipated in the morning in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, as well as in Galle district.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
