At least 61 people have been injured and hospitalized following a serious head-on collision between two private buses on the Matara-Tangalle main road at Talalla, Gandara, earlier today.

The incident occurred when a bus traveling from Embilipitiya to Matara collided with another bus traveling from Matara to Tangalle. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by local authorities. Traffic on the busy main road was disrupted for several hours as police and rescue teams worked to clear the wreckage.

Both buses were heavily damaged in the crash, and passengers were left shaken by the traumatic event. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution while traveling along this stretch of the road.
