Sri Lanka Railways announced that 12 train journeys today ( January 18) were canceled so far due to a shortage of locomotive engine drivers, as many are preparing for a promotion exam.
This issue also affected services yesterday ( January 17), with about 25 train journeys canceled. A senior official stated that while 68 drivers are needed to operate the schedule, only 48 reported to work, with 27 absent.
The Railway Department has warned that train delays and cancellations may persist until the promotion exam concludes on Sunday ( January 19).
