Several reservoirs in Sri Lanka have overflowed due to ongoing heavy rains, resulting in widespread flooding and major disruptions to road traffic. The Meteorological Department has warned that more heavy rainfall is expected across many regions in the coming days.

One of the most affected areas is the Malwathu Oya, where overflowing waters have led to the closure of key roads, including the Puttalam to Mannar route via Oyamaduwa and Thanthirimala.

This disruption has severely impacted both local commuters and farmers in the region.

Farmers in Maduwandana and surrounding areas are facing significant challenges, as they struggle to transport their agricultural products to market amidst the rising waters. The prolonged closure of key roads has added to the difficulties, leaving many unable to sell their produce.

Meanwhile, the Somawathiya-Sungawila road, submerged for the fifth consecutive day, remains closed to traffic, further isolating local communities and complicating rescue and relief efforts.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely as the heavy rain continues to impact many areas across the country. The public has been urged to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone regions.
