In a major breakthrough, Sri Lanka's Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has confiscated a staggering Rs. 283 million in cash, marking the largest-ever drug-related cash seizure in the country's history.
The funds, which were found in a covert operation, are believed to belong to a prominent drug trafficker currently serving a prison sentence.
The suspect, identified as a key figure in a large-scale drug syndicate, is alleged to have continued orchestrating operations from behind bars. Authorities claim the funds were part of a broader network financing illegal drug trade activities.
The PNB, acting on intelligence gathered through its ongoing investigations, raided multiple locations linked to the incarcerated suspect. Police sources confirm that the seized currency was hidden in several locations, and they are continuing to probe the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.
"The amount of money confiscated from this individual is unprecedented, and it sends a strong message about the scale of the drug trade and the lengths to which traffickers will go, even from inside prison," said a senior PNB official.
This operation marks a significant victory in Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to combat the growing issue of narcotics trafficking, with authorities vowing to continue targeting high-level operators in the drug trade, irrespective of their location.
