Former MP Duminda Silva has been moved to a general cell at Welikada Prison after being treated for a sudden illness. Silva, initially admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on January 11, was later transferred to the Prison Hospital.

Following a specialist’s examination on January 15, he was instructed to return to his cell.

The Prisons Department confirmed that Silva is now in K-1, a general cell at Welikada. He had been receiving treatment for his condition at the Prison Hospital since his discharge from the Colombo National Hospital on January 12.

Silva, who was convicted in 2016 for the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, was sentenced to life imprisonment. During his earlier custody, he spent significant time in private and prison hospitals, sparking public criticism over alleged preferential treatment and VIP facilities.

Silva had previously served as the Supervisory MP under the Ministry of Defence during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government.
