A tragic accident occurred this morning (17) on the Southern Expressway, when a coach carrying a group of foreign tourists collided with a truck, resulting in the death of the bus driver and injuring around 15 tourists.
The collision took place near the 138-kilometre post in the lane towards Tangalle, when the bus, traveling at high speed, crashed into the rear of a truck. The impact was severe, leading to the death of the bus driver on the spot.
Approximately 30 foreign tourists were on board at the time of the incident, with 15 of them suffering injuries. The injured passengers have been rushed to Tangalle Base Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the nature or severity of their injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, and local authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while traveling on the Southern Expressway.
