Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, has raised serious concerns over a major racket involving e-tickets for up-country trains to Ella, a popular tourist destination.

During a meeting of the Kandy District Coordination Committee, Gunasena alleged that the e-tickets for this sought-after route are being sold out within an astonishing 42 seconds of their release online, suggesting fraudulent practices.

According to the Deputy Minister, this rapid sell-out time has raised suspicions of organized manipulation of the online ticketing system. The speed at which tickets disappear from the system has left many genuine travelers frustrated and unable to secure seats for the scenic journey to Ella.

In response to the issue, Gunasena confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), urging a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Deputy Minister's remarks have sparked concerns among the public, with many questioning the integrity of the current e-ticketing process and the possible involvement of a well-organized syndicate.

The up-country railway route to Ella is a key attraction for both local and international tourists, drawing thousands every year to experience its breathtaking views. However, with e-tickets allegedly being hoarded or resold at inflated prices, the integrity of the system is now under intense scrutiny.

Authorities are expected to ramp up efforts to investigate the allegations, with hopes of uncovering the full extent of the racket and restoring transparency to the ticketing process.
