The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather warning for several regions of Sri Lanka, with showers and thundershowers expected in multiple provinces over the coming days.
Forecast Highlights:
- North-central, Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces will experience showers or thundershowers at times, with fairly heavy rainfall (over 50 mm) possible in certain areas of the Eastern Province, as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts.
- Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces along with Galle and Matara districts can expect scattered showers or thundershowers, especially in the afternoon and night.
- Fairly Strong Winds (30-40 kmph) are anticipated over the Eastern slope of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, North-western, and Uva provinces, as well as in Hambantota district.
- Misty Conditions are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, particularly during the morning hours.

The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to avoid potential hazards from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island. |

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. |
