The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) announced that raids will commence today ( December 10) to penalize those not selling rice at government-mandated prices. Legal action will be taken against violators of the price regulations.

Inspections of rice mills are ongoing in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts for the third consecutive day, following presidential instructions to monitor daily rice output. These inspections will continue for 10 days, while checks on invoices issued by rice mills began yesterday ( December 9) to trace retail sellers.

The Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation stated that the first shipment of imported rice is expected to arrive tomorrow ( December 11). 

The private sector’s rice imports from India and Pakistan will arrive first, followed by government-ordered stocks entering the market within a few days.
