The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development announced it will investigate a significant drop in local salt production reported by the salt manufacturers.
According to the ministry, production has decreased by 40% over the past two years primarily due to adverse weather conditions.
A spokesperson from the ministry assured that immediate action will be taken to evaluate the situation and address the shortfall, which has already begun affecting the local supply of salt. In response, salt producers have formally requested government approval to import salt to alleviate the shortage.
The Ministry stated that it is reviewing the country’s existing salt reserves and analyzing consumption demands before making a final decision on imports. While discussions are ongoing, no decision has yet been made regarding the importation of salt.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring adequate salt availability and maintaining price stability in the market.
