The President of the Vehicle Importers' Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL), Prasad Manage, has raised concerns over unverified claims regarding the timeline for resuming vehicle imports.

Speaking to the media, he warned that such statements could mislead the public and urged the government to take action against the spread of misinformation.

“We have noticed companies advertising vehicle prices under current tax regulations and encouraging consumers to pre-order, suggesting restrictions will soon be lifted. These are attempts to mislead customers,” Manage said.

He cautioned that these claims might cause unnecessary panic, prompting people to sell their vehicles at reduced prices. He advised consumers not to rush into decisions without confirmed information.

Manage clarified that, based on available insights, vehicle import restrictions will likely ease in stages, starting with buses and lorries, followed by commercial vehicles like vans and cabs. However, no official timeline or announcement has been made by the government.

He emphasized that consumers should remain cautious and wait for verified updates before taking any action.
